Welcome to Calvary!  It is my privilege to be Lead Pastor since 2009.  I came from Windom and before that I served in Jackson and LaSalle/Lake Hanska.  Graduating from Barnesville High School, Concordia College and Luther Seminary, I was ordained at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in 1981.  In 1985 Brenda Olson married me at Trimont Minnesota.  We are proud parents of 5 children.  Danielle is a mental health provider in Park Rapids at ‘A Better Connection’.  Alicia is attending the William Mitchell School of Law in St. Paul.  Erik is attending MSUM, Moorhead.  Megan is a senior at Nevis High School and will be attending the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  Lealan is attending Nevis Elementary.  As a Certified Physician’s Assistant (PA-C), Brenda is working with Dr. Dan Smith providing surgery at Essentia Health, Park Rapids.  Every weekend connections are made between the good people who attend Calvary Lutheran Church.  Scratch the surface and I bet you will find common ground with mutual friends that will bless your life.  All I can say is that I have! Jesus loves you and may the Holy Spirit bless you.

I
was
raised
in
St.
Paul,
MN
and
in
1998
began
attending
 Saint
Mary’s
University
where
I
studied
psychology
because
I
had
a
desire
to
understand
the
vast
network
of
individual
 stories.

I
slowly
began
to
realize
that
psychology
was
only
a
small
piece
of
the
picture.

Saint
Mary’s
became
my
steppingstone
for
many
things
including
becoming
more
aware
of
my
faith
traditions,
personal
strengths
and
future
hopes.

It
was
 there
I
made
a
commitment
to
continue
in
ministry
as
my
main
vocation.

 I began attending Luther Seminary
in
2002
as
a
non‐degree
student
while
working
fulltime
as
a
construction
worker.

I
was
 met
with
great
success
in
this
occupation,
advancing
to
journeyman
laborer
within
a
few
short
years.

I
had
developed
an
 interest
in
the
different
dynamics
of
building
structures
that
provided
security
and
safety
to
an
underserved
community.

 During
this
time,
I
was
not
deterred
from
pursuing
an
education
in
ministry
and
in
2004
I
was
admitted
into
the
Masters
of
 Divinity
Program
at
Luther
Seminary.

 It is on West Seventh
in
St.
Paul,
Minnesota,
I
committed
to
live
out
my
academic
career
at
Luther
Seminary,
a
place
where
 my
past
and
future
united.

I
began
to
form
the
building
blocks
of
a
successful
ministry,
working
as
a
Youth
and
Family
 Coordinator
and
a
High
School
Swimming
and
Diving
Coach.

In
2007,
I
joined
the
Army
National
Guard
to
serve
as
a
 Chaplain
and
currently
serve
141
MEB
out
of
Fargo,
ND.

In
2009,
I
served
as
an
Intern
Pastor
in
Rutland,
ND
where
I
felt
 confirmed
in
my
call
as
ordained
pastor.
In
2011,
I
was
called
to
Eastern
North
Dakota
Synod
and
in
2015
our
family
moved
 back
to
lake
country,
currently
serving
in
Northwest
Minnesota
Synod.

 Our family called
Alexandria
our
home
for
the
past
few
years.

It
was
there
my
wife,
Katie,
advanced
in
her
field
of
 radiography
and
where
our
two
beautiful
girls,
Adelaide
(4)
and
Vada
(2), continued to learn and grow before accepting the call to Pastor at Calvary.
We
are
looking
forward
to
a
new
faith
community in Park Rapids to
grow,
to
call
home,
and
to
share
in
that
“old,
 old
story
of
Jesus
and
his
love”.
