A Message from Calvary Women in Ministry

WELCA “JOY to the WORLD” December Celebrations!
Celebrating DONNA YLINIEMI’S 39 years of cooking at Camp Emmaus! We received this letter from Interim Director Chris and sent a monetary Manger gift in honor of Donna!
Dear Women of the ELCA,
A young mother dropped her son off at Camp Emmaus for his first overnight experience away from home. All week she was nervous about how he was handling this new experience. Was he homesick? Was he scared of this new environment? Was he able to make friends? On Friday afternoon she returned to pick him up. Her anxiety increased when she saw tears rolling down his cheeks. She comforted him and asked, “Why are you crying? What happened?” “I don’t want to leave,” he replied. “I’m learning about God, having so much fun, making new friends, and exploring His creation. I wish I could stay here all summer.” One week at camp Emmaus changed her son’s life. What his mother had first thought were tears of distress, were actually tears of joy. His heart had been opened by the Holy Spirit and his faith was strengthened by God’s grace. He was more confident in his actions and developed a last attitude of Christian Service.
  • Celebrating all our young families at Calvary, we chose 2 of the large “Toys for Tots’ families and bought gifts for them.
  • Celebrating all the men and women who have given many hours during November and December in serving at funerals and caring for many families in this way.
  •  Celebrating JULIE WARMBOLD, our volunteer coordinator who leads us all in these endeavors. Perhaps YOU are being called to be her assistant in the New Year.
  • Celebrating 64 Personal Care Kits lovingly assembles and sent off with the beautiful quilt shipment.

Quilter’s Corner – January 2019

Happy New Year! A new year has begun but the “old” request to assist those in need around the world continues. We were able to deliver 65 quilts and 64 personal care kits to Lutheran World Relief in December as well as 21 quilts delivered to LSS in Puerto Rico by those who went on the PR 2 PR mission trip. As always, please consider joining the mission of assembling quilts at Calvary. I will repeat the same encouragement….all you need to do is tie a knot to be able to help. Other needs are also available on quilt assembly days such as ironing and cutting fabric. Please call me at 699-3212 if you have any questions.
January quilting days are Mondays, January 14th and 28th starting at 9:00 until about 1:30, coming when or staying and as long as you wish. (Note, Jan. 14th we will be set up in the education wing as a blood drive is being conducted in the Fellowship Hall.)
Mission quilting: “Tied in faith, sent in hope, wrapped in love.”
