Our Mission and Purpose: As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

A Message from Calvary Women in Ministry… September 2019

31st Annual Convention of the NW MN Synodical Women’s Organization

“Loving the Least of These”

September 20-21st

Luther Crest Bible Camp in Alexandria

We will be trying a full 2-day event at our annual convention in September. Part of the reason for trying this format is in response by our attendees wishing to attend more than 1 break out session. We will be breaking up our business sessions into shorter segments, especially since we will have the election of our 8 voting members to the Triennial Convention in 2020. We will have a worship service and our bible study on Friday and the keynote will happen after our meal on Friday evening. We are bringing back the popular “Root Beer and Hymns” on Friday evening. On Saturday you will get to attend 2 different breakout sessions, and we will close with another worship service.

Luther Crest is such a special place to celebrate women together, prayerfully consider joining us. Registration forms due by Tuesday, September 10th. For further details contact Rachel Aanenson or Dorothy Meyer.

At our annual convention we will honor a woman from each of our conferences with our Mary Magdalene Award. These women will be given a rose, a certificate, and a monetary donation to a charity associated with the Women of the ELCA. These are women who have been faithful to Jesus’ command to “GO and TELL”.

Special thank you to Joanne Wright and Mary Ann Yliniemi for making pocket prayer squares for this Synod Assembly project. Read this delightful thank you from our WELCA President, Sue Ellwanger!
“My Dear Friends, When I first played with the idea of giving 400 plus voting squares, I was not sure it was a realistic goal. After all was said and done, I received close to 1000! I was not prepared for the outpouring of talent by you. My heart was full, as I looked around the auditorium, seeing the voting members holding the prayer square in their hands as prayers were said before each ballot for bishop. The extra pocket prayer squares were given to both Luther Crest and Pathways Bible Camps for their campers. Each of the final seven candidates for bishop were presented with full size prayer shawls. thank you again for making my crazy dream a reality and so much more!”
Sue Ellwanger, President

Quilter’s Corner – September 2019

“Goodbye to summer” has come all too quickly. To celebrate summer, we will have a potluck lunch at our second September quilting day, Monday, September 23rd. Please feel free to come and join in a celebration of mission quilting at 12:00 noon. It would be fun to share with all who contribute in any way besides the assembly days on Mondays.
Many of you have donated time sewing tops at home so come and join in the potluck lunch.

HELP! We are running low on quilt tops. Please consider assembling a top using the bundles of blocks cut and ready to go in the basket by the display counter across from the office. They have directions for assembly on them. If you choose to make a top from your own fabric scraps just be sure it is a finished size of 60”x80” with ½ inch seems, the required LWR size. Ironing the tops helps so much when assembling the quilts. All tops can be left in the basket or in the quilt room. The following is a request when donating fabric. We have had many generous, much appreciated and needed responses. However, we do have limited space for storage and cannot be a recipient of just any fabric. Although we do use some upholstery fabrics, please only donate that which is light weight. Rule of thumb in deciding might simply be “would I want to be covered with this as a blanket?” Also, it must be clean and not smelly. Please sort through any other donations to be sure the fabric is useable and at least big enough for a 9” square, no trimming laces, or felt pieces please. Thank you for helping.

Quilting days are Mondays September 9th and 23rd starting at 9:00 AM.
