Our Mission and Purpose: As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

Thank You

at September’s WELCA

Dorothy Meyer received the Mary Magdalene Award at the 31st Northwest MN Synod’s Gathering on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Detroit Lakes. We are so proud of her – thank you Dot for all you do and are at Calvary!!!

“Hospitality” was the theme for our 2018 convention held at Trinity Lutheran in Detroit Lakes on September 14th & 15th. Five women from Calvary were able to attend and we felt warmly welcomed and inspired by the worship, speakers, and sessions we attended! It is good to gather, just as it is good to gather here in Bible Study, quilting activities, and other acts of mission! I share 3 perspectives on mission that were highlighted at the convention.
Our women of the ELCA Purpose Statement is carried out through three different perspectives: Growth, Community, Action. They cannot be separated any more than God the Father (creator), God the Son (redeemer), and God the Holy Spirit (sanctifier) can be separated. Our purpose statement makes it clear that we are a community of women living in relationship to God, one another, the Church, society and the world. The Women of the ELCA is organized for mission and that mission is to mobilize women to act boldly upon their faith in Jesus Christ. So, instead of wondering which issues, programs, or resources belong to Growth, which belong to Action, and which belong to Community, know that all issues, programs, and resources need all three perspectives to be wholly addressed. Together, the three mission areas provide a holistic approach to living the gospel of Jesus Christ in today’s world: they provide opportunities for women to grown in faith and mission.

Quilter’s Corner –  November 2018

Mission Quilts tracker shows some of our quilts and personal care kits went to Nicaragua. How wonderful is that! School Kits, Personal Care Kits, Baby Care Kits, and Mission Quilts were distributed to 42,000 who attend schools in impoverished and high-risk districts to ensure they have the best possible chance of breaking out of the crippling cycle of poverty. Thank you so much for bringing hope to our neighbors in need around the world. We thank God for you! -Lutheran World Relief
November quilting dates are Mondays, November 12th and 26th at 9:00 AM.
Mission quilting: “Tied in faith, sent in hope, wrapped in love.”
