Serving Opportunities

Help Needed – Pastor’s Discretionary Fund Team

Ten years ago, Pastor Norby started the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund to help people in need in our community. It continues to this day and all money donated to the fund goes directly to assisting our friends and neighbors who need help.

Distributing these funds is time-consuming, so over the years Pastor Steve has delegated some of that work to lay people in the congregation. Every Thursday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 a team of two people meets with individuals who come for help and offer monetary help as well as guidance, hugs, and prayers.

With Jerry and Elaine Thomas retiring from this post after many years of service, we are looking for more people who might be interested in serving people in need. Anyone interested in helping or learning more about this ministry should contact Pastor Steve. This is a service that changes lives!

Altar Guild
Help is needed on the Altar Guild.
The purpose of the Altar Guild is to serve. Service requires a spiritual commitment and it has a spiritual goal.
We serve by doing the following:
  • Set up the paraments to coordinate with the times and seasons of the church year.
  • Clean and store the sacramental vessels and linens.
  • Change the Eternal Candle and check other candle heights.
  • Serve with four other members at communion services.
All this is done for the Glory of God and the building up of His people.

If you are interested in joining the Altar Guild, please contact Barb Thomason 732-9313.

Hospital Visitation Volunteers

Want to make a difference with a fellow member of Calvary who is hospitalized? It’s easy and rewarding…Just meet with the Hospital Chaplain for a brief interview and guidance. You will also have your picture taken and receive an ID badge that you will need to wear when visiting.
What’s involved? You will visit Calvary members hospitalized at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s best to visit in the morning but any time is fine if it works best for you. On Sunday’s bring a few church bulletins to share with members.
Please call Dorothy Meyer 218-255-4853 or Renee Brauer 206-434-1950 for more information.
