Our Mission and Purpose: As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

“Sharon Mortrud and I shared a cabin at Luther Crest for this year’s 2-day joyful convention! We need to remember that our WELCA units might look different today than our mothers’ and grandmothers’ – but through Bible Study, acts of service, prayer, and offering – we are part of the churchwide organization!”

Dorothy Meyer received the Mary Magdalene Award at the 31st Northwest MN Synod’s Gathering on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Detroit Lakes. We are so proud of her – thank you Dot for all you do and are at Calvary!!!

A Message from Calvary Women in Ministry… November 2019

Synodical Woman’s Organization Report from outgoing President Sue Ellwanger,

Dear Sisters in Christ,
Our convention theme this year was “Loving the Least of These.” We live in interesting times, and we don’t have to look beyond our neighborhoods and communities to find “the least of these.” It is what we do as Children of the Risen Lord that will make a difference in many lives. We serve by making and providing over 7,000 quilts that are distributed in our communities and around the world. You have assembled and sent through Global Missions thousands of baby kits, school kits, and fabric kits. Thousands of dollars have been raised by our units and put to good use in our communities and globally. You are helping the least of these, sometimes without even realizing you are doing so.

Our SWO, which encompasses all eight conferences, has been generous not only to church wide, but also in our own NW MN Synod. To name a few:
-NW MN Fund for Leaders $6,007
-Katie’s Fund $1,007
-Luther Crest Bible Camp $5,000
-United Churches for the Homeless in Fargo/Moorhead $3,500
-NW MN Next Gen Fund $5,000
-Scholarships to ELCA colleges for high school students $4,250
-Current for Curran in Liberia $10,865
This does not include the $30,000 we sent to the Churchwide SWO. This was accomplished by our units and conference gatherings and the annual convention. God’s work, our hands is at play here. This could not be accomplished without each and every one of you.
